As of 2014, the origins of whisky are unknown, but it is known that whisky has been produced in Scotland for more than 500 years and therefore is generally regarded as the birthplace of all whiskies.

According to the Scotch Whisky Association, Scotch Whisky evolved from a drink called Uisge Beatha, which means "water of life."

In the 11th century, Irish monks arrived in Scotland to deliver the Gospel, bringing with them the distillation of Scotch whisky.

In 1780, there were only eight legal distilleries, compared with more than 400 illegal ones, large and small. They had to cut corners to produce whisky, and the reputation of Scotch whisky was becoming "tarnished".

In 1823, the British Parliament enacted the Excise Act to create a relatively relaxed tax environment for legal distilleries, and vigorously "suppressed" illegal distilleries, thus greatly promoting the development of Scotch whisky industry.

In 1831, the introduction of the column still in Scotland, which allowed continuous distillation, greatly improved the efficiency of distillation, thus reducing the price of whisky and making it more popular.
